First Back 1400-1402 Next Last
Cyfurrel takes a Penbrooke princess, Maybella, as wife, securing peace with much of the region in the face of dwindling local support. A chunk of western Penbrooke is granted leave from the empire as part of the deal, but Cyfurrel secures nearly 3,000 veteran Penbrooke soldiers in the dowry.
The River Valley remains strongly under imperial control but Cyfurrel knows that may not last. He turns his attention to Enhold, the thorn in the empire's belly- blocking the clear passage between east and west.
A great string of defensive fortifications and walls are built along the southern Enhold River as defense against the Myron Empire. Cyfurrel takes his army into Trahbeck and tries again what started with Myron II: an attempt to take Enhold from Trahbeck.
Heldolfen, after exhausting his coffers and unable to recoup any of his fortune, travels to Trahmbeck and joins the court of Lord Hafensera.
Dershwin takes 20 men-at-arms and his son, Dulfen, to join an expeditionary force of almost 1,500 Flood Plains soldiers in Enhold.
Lord Hafensera opens his ears to Heldolfen's complaints against King Mergram, believing Hendolfen's situation to be a victim of uncontrollable events and circumstances.
Two major battles are fought nearly simultaneously in Enhold...
Emperor Cyfurrel the Younger leads 3,000 troops across the Casot River near the Enhold Mountains and engages around 4,500 Enhold/Flood plains troops. The battle results in a near stalemate after two days. Dershwin survives the fighting with 17 of 20 of his men. Dulfen excitedly claims his first two kills.
Cyfurrel leads a larger force than his son's consisting of around 4,000 men against an army of nearly 6,000 troops consisting of mostly Durnhall men but also some Enhold natives and even a number of troops displaced from the Mercer region. Cyfurrel is killed in the fighting.
Thinking they killed the Emperor Cyfurrel the Durnhall/Enhold soldiers celebrate jubilantly and send word to the Enhold/Flood Plains army to the north.
Emperor Cyfurrel the Younger leads his fatigued and battered force against the celebrating Enhold/Flood Plains army one last time, catching them off guard and routing them. Dershwin loses 6 men before routing and Dulfen loses three fingers from his off hand.
Lord Hafensera convinces Prince Messar, King Mergram's nephew, to join a tax boycott against King Mergram until Heldolfen's lordship and tax authority are restored.
Cyfurrel initiates a forced march to the Enhold capital nested at the foot of the Enhold Mountains.
King Mergram refuses to reinstate Heldolfen as a lord, but does not act against Prince Messar or Lord Hafensera so as to not disrupt the 'happy family' image between Prince and King. Messar's tax base is small enough to not be of major consequence to lose out on and Hafensera's tax base is almost more difficult and costly to enforce than its worth considering the religious politics in and around Trahmbeck.
Erma is born.
Averaging a hasty 25-30 miles a day of marching, Emperor Cyfurrel makes it to the Enhold capital in 6 days with his weakened, tired, and bloodied force of only about 2,000 soldiers.
Cyfurrel takes the King of Enhold, Deronius III, captive and allows his troops to plunder the city.
Several Anduel lords formally request King Mergram revoke Lord Hafensera's lordship and tax authority or take some other stern action, citing the unjust situation where they, loyal lords, pay tax to the king while Hafensera does not.
Dershwin and his 11 surviving men-at-arms and Dulfen, along with most of the Flood Plains expeditionary troops, return to the Flood Plains.
Lord Hafensera finds support from several other Anduel lords, mostly in the south and west, who cease tax payments as well.
2,000 South West River Valley troops and 3,000 Vesop/Greyfield/Mercer troops reinforce Cyfurrel's army in Enhold.
King Mergram's court begins considering the loyal taxpaying Anduel lords' request to act against Lord Hafensera and his growing number of allies more seriously
The remaining Enhold soldiers regroup under the command of Deronius III's cousin and engage Emperor Cyfurrel's forces one last time near the southern Enhold border. 5,500 Enhold soldiers battle 7,000 imperial troops. The Enhold army dissolves after a crushing defeat.
The King of Kern dies during the fighting in Enhold.
Lord Hafensera, recognizing the potential for King Mergram to act against him soon, initiates what quickly turns out to be a bloodless coup against the King.
Lord Hafensera and his conspirators convince/force Mergram to abdicate the throne. They convince him that honor and fairness of a single king dictating the tax authority over others' lands is not right and that support for a new look at nobility and rule is justified and backed by enough of Anduel that the king has no other choice but to hand his power to the lords.
Dershwin backs a west Kern lord, Lord Merklew, in the King's absence. Merklew successfully reigns in control of the region.
Most of the Kern lords follow Merklew's lead and agree on submission to the Cyfurrel threat.
Dershwin travels north to Enhold with Merklew and other Kern lords and swears allegiance to Cyfurrel.
Anduel lords that remained loyal to King Mergram tot he end begin to fear the possibility of reprisals from Hafensera and his allies; they organize a resistance to support/reinstate Mergram as King.
The Flood Plains submit to Cyfurrel.
The lord of Aaron's Hold is able to raise his levies quickly and begins marching to rendezvous near Trahmbeck to meet with others loyal to King Mergram.
Lord Gorenfold, a Mergram Loyalist, is arrested in his own court without bloodshed or violence by agents of Lord Hafensera's coup, despite the presence of Gorenfold's gathering levies camped outside.
The lord of Aaron's Hold battles troops of lords member to Hafensera's coup near Trahmbeck. The Mergram Loyalists are outnumbered nearly 4 to 1 and lose. The lord of Aaron's Hold is captured and killed some time during or after the fighting.
Cyfurrel announced the new central Imperial Capital, Errfulfel City, of the new Errfulfel Empire.
A huge construction and rebuilding effort is initialized in Errfulfel City.
The remaining Mergram Loyalists abandon their attempt to reinstate Mergram's authority.
Lord Hafensera and other lords member to the coup establish a ruling council in Gram Royal. They establish a council of 6 lords consisting of the 5 most powerful of the coup members plus Prince Messar. The council has voting authority over grand matters but leaves much of the power of rule to the lords of the land.
A massive relocation effort is initialized in Myron's Seat; moving most of the artifacts to Errfulfel City.
Lord Gorenfold is freed from captivity in Gram Royal by the Anduel Council. He is reinstated as a lord but without his lands.
Lynn moves to north Vesop, joining her husband, Prince Fenwin, in house arrest under King Jauford Hollwick.
Pavel and Erwin move to Errfulfel City in Delsa's custody.
North Ertund falls to rebel lords.
Cyfurrel II is born.
Damien II is transferred to Cyfurrel the Younger's custody in Errfulfel City.
Delsa demands her son Cyfurrel do something about her sister's captivity in Vesop.
Cyfurrel travels to Greyfield Castle and negotiates Prince Fenwin's and Lynn's release with King Jauford Hollwick.
King Hollwick agrees to release Fenwin under guarantee from Cyfurrel that Hollwick's son, Jorge, will take the throne of Greyfield or his family will rule Greyfield otherwise after his death. Cyfurrel also pays a ransom of gold and silk.
Prince Fenwin and Lynn are released to Cyfurrel's custody.
Cyfurrel and Fenwin travel to Trefel. Lynn returns to Errfulfel City.
In the face of labor shortages and inability to meet tax quotas, Dershwin sells his manor to another lord. He pays rent for the manor house and 30 acres, employing a single sharecropper family to work the land.
Dershwin leaves Ilya and Nevil at his manor, taking Dulfen and Kergin to Ortund to pursue business opportunities.
Dershwin rents a small warehouse and front office in Ortund and buys a single small sea barge.
Lord Manfer of Manfold Hall seizes power of the Anduel council. One of the council lords is killed sometime soon after.
Lord Hafensera is arrested and summarily executed by Lord Manfer's court.
South West lords expand their own territories (and consequently those of the Errfulfel Empire) taking all of the River Valley South West after swelling with experienced soldiers returning home from Enhold.
A son is born to Ermmel but dies shortly after birth
