Cyfurrel takes a Penbrooke princess, Maybella, as wife, securing peace with much of the region in the face of dwindling local support. A chunk of western Penbrooke is granted leave from the empire as part of the deal, but Cyfurrel secures nearly 3,000 veteran Penbrooke soldiers in the dowry.

The River Valley remains strongly under imperial control but Cyfurrel knows that may not last. He turns his attention to Enhold, the thorn in the empire's belly- blocking the clear passage between east and west.

Emperor Cyfurrel the Younger leads 3,000 troops across the Casot River near the Enhold Mountains and engages around 4,500 Enhold/Flood plains troops. The battle results in a near stalemate after two days. Dershwin survives the fighting with 17 of 20 of his men. Dulfen excitedly claims his first two kills.

Cyfurrel leads a larger force than his son's consisting of around 4,000 men against an army of nearly 6,000 troops consisting of mostly Durnhall men but also some Enhold natives and even a number of troops displaced from the Mercer region. Cyfurrel is killed in the fighting.
