Cyfurrel takes a Penbrooke princess, Maybella, as wife, securing peace with much of the region in the face of dwindling local support. A chunk of western Penbrooke is granted leave from the empire as part of the deal, but Cyfurrel secures nearly 3,000 veteran Penbrooke soldiers in the dowry.
The River Valley remains strongly under imperial control but Cyfurrel knows that may not last. He turns his attention to Enhold, the thorn in the empire's belly- blocking the clear passage between east and west.
A great string of defensive fortifications and walls are built along the southern Enhold River as defense against the Myron Empire. Cyfurrel takes his army into Trahbeck and tries again what started with Myron II: an attempt to take Enhold from Trahbeck.
Heldolfen, after exhausting his coffers and unable to recoup any of his fortune, travels to Trahmbeck and joins the court of Lord Hafensera.
Dershwin takes 20 men-at-arms and his son, Dulfen, to join an expeditionary force of almost 1,500 Flood Plains soldiers in Enhold.
Lord Hafensera opens his ears to Heldolfen's complaints against King Mergram, believing Hendolfen's situation to be a victim of uncontrollable events and circumstances.
Two major battles are fought nearly simultaneously in Enhold...
Emperor Cyfurrel the Younger leads 3,000 troops across the Casot River near the Enhold Mountains and engages around 4,500 Enhold/Flood plains troops. The battle results in a near stalemate after two days. Dershwin survives the fighting with 17 of 20 of his men. Dulfen excitedly claims his first two kills.
Cyfurrel leads a larger force than his son's consisting of around 4,000 men against an army of nearly 6,000 troops consisting of mostly Durnhall men but also some Enhold natives and even a number of troops displaced from the Mercer region. Cyfurrel is killed in the fighting.
Thinking they killed the Emperor Cyfurrel the Durnhall/Enhold soldiers celebrate jubilantly and send word to the Enhold/Flood Plains army to the north.
Emperor Cyfurrel the Younger leads his fatigued and battered force against the celebrating Enhold/Flood Plains army one last time, catching them off guard and routing them. Dershwin loses 6 men before routing and Dulfen loses three fingers from his off hand.
Lord Hafensera convinces Prince Messar, King Mergram's nephew, to join a tax boycott against King Mergram until Heldolfen's lordship and tax authority are restored.
Cyfurrel initiates a forced march to the Enhold capital nested at the foot of the Enhold Mountains.
King Mergram refuses to reinstate Heldolfen as a lord, but does not act against Prince Messar or Lord Hafensera so as to not disrupt the 'happy family' image between Prince and King. Messar's tax base is small enough to not be of major consequence to lose out on and Hafensera's tax base is almost more difficult and costly to enforce than its worth considering the religious politics in and around Trahmbeck.
Erma is born.
Averaging a hasty 25-30 miles a day of marching, Emperor Cyfurrel makes it to the Enhold capital in 6 days with his weakened, tired, and bloodied force of only about 2,000 soldiers.
Cyfurrel takes the King of Enhold, Deronius III, captive and allows his troops to plunder the city.
Several Anduel lords formally request King Mergram revoke Lord Hafensera's lordship and tax authority or take some other stern action, citing the unjust situation where they, loyal lords, pay tax to the king while Hafensera does not.
Dershwin and his 11 surviving men-at-arms and Dulfen, along with most of the Flood Plains expeditionary troops, return to the Flood Plains.
Lord Hafensera finds support from several other Anduel lords, mostly in the south and west, who cease tax payments as well.
